We've built and tested a seat actuation system for an ejection trainer. The actuator had to be able to accelerate a test mass of 100 kg at 10 g maximum.
In order to test this, we've built a mini-rail track - the payload was installed on a small cart, propelled by the actuator, and decelerated by a car brake system installed on the cart.
Note: 10 g vertical acceleration equates to 11 g horizontal acceleration.
The seat ejection trainer is in operation today, with our actuator accelerating pilots-to-be, safely and accurately.
